Bio

Margaret has been the prospect management officer and Advancement Data subject matter expert at Carleton since 2004, when total staff numbered 20, 5 of whom were Major Gift Development Officers.  Since then the department has grown to over 15 MG officers and a total of 20-25 portfolios, and she remains the sole prospect management officer.  She tamed the "wild west" of prospect management data and database, by researching best practices for coding, processes and pipeline management.  Frustrated by the lack of concise and helpful subject matter, she pioneered and simplified prospect data in order to provide useful and inspirational reports for accountability and forward projections.  She has provided prospect management advice to several North American post secondary institutions and has presented at CCAE and AASP conferences.

In addition to her professional experience, Margaret has been the executive director/treasurer for 6 years at a small local charity - picking up the pieces immediately after an embezzlement of over $600,000 was discovered.  She has a few stories to share about trust and justice, financial controls and the recovery of this small charity from the brink of destruction.

Margaret is a graduate of Carleton University, with a BA in Sociology, holds a management certificate from the Sprott School of Business, a records management certificate from University of Toronto, and plans to pursue her MBA in the near future.
